Advice & Guidance

The professional support with a hands-on mentality for speed skating competitions.

I know better than anyone that speed skating competitions rely on volunteers. However, athletes increasingly demand a more professional approach from organizing bodies, which often consist entirely of volunteers.

VDH SCHAATSEVENTS advies & begeleiding

Research, including research by NOC*NSF, shows that with regularity the limit in terms of load of volunteers is reached. With VDH Schaatsevents advies & begeleiding I respond to this: help on a project basis when the existing capacity or expertise is insufficient, with a hands-on mentality.

With VDH Schaatsevents advies & begeleiding, I help organizing committees, as well as national and international sports associations, with organizing (large) speed skating events. But also with issues that remain unresolved due to insufficient capacity.

Why should you engage VDH Schaatsevents advies & begeleiding? Below you’ll find numerous examples of how I’ve developed my expertise.

I gained experience organizing major speed skating events as Competition Manager at the Masters’ Sprint Games (MSG) and the Masters’ Allround Games (MAG), which are organized under the auspices of the IMSSC (International Masters’ Speed Skating Committee). These are the unofficial World Championships for Sprint and Allround speed skating for masters.

As Competition Manager, I was responsible for the technical aspects of the competition at the World Masters Championships in 2012 (Heerenveen), 2016 (Leeuwarden), 2019 (Leeuwarden), and 2024 (Enschede).

In addition, I made a significant contribution behind the scenes to the successful long track speed skating events at the Winter World Masters Games in Innsbruck (WWMG2020) and Baselga di Piné (WWMG2024).

At these Winter Games for Masters, which take place every four years, long track speed skating is a fixed event. The event is organised under the auspices of the IMGA (International Masters Games Association).

Since 2010, I have been the main player in organizing the integrated Dutch Allround and Single Distance Championships for Masters. These Masters National Championships are held annually at a different ice rink in the Netherlands under the auspices of the KNSB Long Track & Short Track Section, and therefore have a different organizing committee each time. With my expertise, I am an important and stable addition to this changing composition of OCs.

In addition, since 2020, as a Technical Delegate of the IMSSC, I have been supporting organizing committees worldwide with the competition technical part of the Games. The (unofficial) World Sprint and Allround Championships for masters are held in a different country each year, with a rotating organizing committee. With my expertise, I contribute to the technical details of these World Championships.

In my role as competition manager at Schaatscircuit.nl, I’ve been organizing weekly competitions for skaters of all ages for about 15 years at the faster ice rinks in the Netherlands, such as Thialf (Heerenveen), the 11stedenhal in Leeuwarden, and IJsbaan Twente (Enschede).

Finally, since 2024, I’ve been an ISU Sport Expert for major long track events in the Netherlands (Thialf), such as the European Championships and the World Cup.
